Chang Shan Extract Plant Description
For roughly 2,000 years, Chinese herbalists have treated malaria using chang shan extract Dichroa febrifuga root extract, commonly known as chang shan extract, from a type of blue evergreen hydrangea that grows in Tibet. More recent studies suggest that halofuginone, a compound derived from chang shan extract bioactive ingredient, could be used to treat many other autoimmune disorders as well. Western medicine first noted the healing potential of the plant’s root extract, Chang Shan, in the late 1940s, when the active ingredient was identified in medical journals and put to use suppressing parasitic growth in animal feed. And now, researchers from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine have discovered the molecular secrets behind this chang shan extract power.
The therapeutic effects of Chang Shan are primarily attributed to a specific class of alkaloids:
- Febrifugine and Isofebrifugine, Halofuginone: These are the most studied and potent compounds in the herb. They are exceptionally effective against malaria parasites but are also responsible for the herb’s significant side effects, particularly nausea and vomiting.
- Chang Shan extract is a fascinating example of a traditional medicine with a very strong, scientifically validated biological effect. Its compound, halofuginone, is a potent weapon against malaria and a modulator of the immune system.
- Chang Shan is never used alone in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is always part of a formula to enhance its efficacy and, most critically, to control and mitigate its severe side effects, primarily nausea and vomiting.
Chang shan Extrat SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
- Anticoccidial
- Antiprotozoal Agents · Anti-malarial
- Anti-inflammatory
- Facts: Previously medical researchers had identified Halofuginone as a possible treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis and Scleroderma.
- Facts: Researchers have discovered that in the body, one common precursor T cell can give rise to both tissue- protective T regulatory, or Treg, cells and the inflammatory T cell type known as T helper 17. These inflammatory Th17 cells play a prominent role in many autoimmune-related disorders, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Psoriasis.
