Cycloastragenol from Astragalus Root, Chinese name Huang Qi, is an herb from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) which is traditionally used for its immune enhancing properties, but is also recommended in TCM for “deficiency of chi” (life force) ¨C which might include symptoms such as lack of energy and fatigue. The plant is native to Northern China and Mongolia and there are over 2,000 types of astragalus worldwide. The herb was mentioned in the Divine Husbandman’s Classic of the Materia Medica, written anonymously during the first century AD and attributed to the teachings of the legendary figure Shennong who is thought to have lived approximately 5,000 years ago.

Cycloastragenol
Cycloastragenol is hydrolyzed from Astragaloside IV, and is purported to have telomerase activation activity (TA 65). A single in vitro study done in 2009 led to claims that cycloastragenol may activate telomerase, leading to controversial claims for its role in reducing the effects of aging.
